The Flaming Lips - The Terror   

With their high prices and their “stunt” releases (songs in gummy skulls, 24 hour songs, etc) it’s sometimes hard to shake the suspicion that The Flaming Lips are trying to hustle me (and you).  So I’m happy to say this album is their best since Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.  I’m glad I bought the silver vinyl version.  At the same time I wonder why it was twice the price of some other colored vinyl double albums I own.  I’m also a little miffed that the overseas version, though not on colored vinyl, comes with a bonus 7” single (Sun Blows Up Today b/w All You Need Is Love) and a CD rather than a free download.  I enjoy physical, tangible objects just as much as any European. 

So…I don’t feel like I got hustled this time but there’s no way I’m going to pay $70 or more on Record Store Day for the Zaireeka boxed set, for which I would need three more turntables to properly play.  What kind of rube do you think I am?

The Last of my Record Store Day vinyl arrived yesterday.  There are a few others I’d pick up if I came across them at decent prices (Grateful Dead, Misfits, Smoke Fairies, etc) but I was lucky enough to get the ones I wanted the most.  And I didn’t buy any of them from flippers.  :)

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.  Ordered Record Store Day morning from flaminglips.com.  Arrived via UPS yesterday.  This is the Doctor Who sample version.  Looks like I’ll be listening to a ton of great vinyl this weekend!

If you’re looking for The Flaming Lips’ Heady Fwends Record Store Day release take a look at flaminglips.com before you pay a flipper a ton of money on eBay.  As of this writing (10:45 AM Eastern April 22), it’s still for sale there for $36.98.  People have paid up to $150 for it on eBay already.  Crazy!

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.  I don’t own this but I want to.  If anyone finds this on Record Store Day and wants to resell it for a fair price let me know.  I don’t want to get gouged by a flipper but my local store thinks they won’t be able to get it.

Record Store Day update:  Got it!  Not from my local store (though I did get many great things from them) but from flaminglips.com.  Seems kind of anti-RSD in spirit to buy it online but that’s the only way I was going to get it and I’m happy I didn’t have to line some flipper’s pockets.  They still have it listed on their website so if you want some get some!
